3 Tips & Tricks for the i500 by Professor Kim Jongyub
Since the launch of our i500 intraoral scanner this year, we’ve had users who have been sharing their experiences of using the device. It’s been exciting to check out the various applications of our scanner! In this article, we’ll be sharing some of the cool things which our active community member Professor Kim Jongyub has been trying out using the i500!
1. Create a Full-Arch Scan Using Two Side Stone Models
What happens when you need a full-arch scan but you only have two side stone models and your patient is unable to come in for an appointment? Instead of getting two separate data sets from the side stone models, why not try merging both as one continuous data using the i500? An important thing to note when you’d like to attempt this is that your side stone models need to have overlapping parts in order to scan both models as a continuous, cohesive set.

2. Pre-Scan Antagonist Model Before Patient Appointment
If you are on a tight schedule and you already have an antagonist stone model from previous appointments with a patient, a way to save scanning time is to scan the antagonist model using the i500 prior to the patient’s appointment. That way, you would only need to scan the arch that you will be adjusting during the appointment. Once you have both, the data from the model and the live scan, you can use iScan, Medit Link's scanning software, to get the occlusion by the lateral bite.

3. Merge One Side Model with Live Scanning of the Other Half
Ever wondered if it was possible to link a stone model data with an intraoral scan data? Professor Kim used the i500 to find out by scanning the side stone model first, then doing live scanning on the other half of his own mouth! Check out the video of his demonstration.
